How to Crochet Sweet Spirals Winter Set – Free Crochet Pattern

Hello darlings and welcome to the first blog posts since the painful loss of the former brand.
What can I say ?  Lesson learned and the big decision taken, lead me to the new brand and hence the new name for this blog.
So welcome to the first pattern published under Crochet my Vision brand.
Winter is pretty aggressive around here, quite cold and might I say unexpected. Hence my challenge to create a cute but warm and comfy set to help my little one keep warm during her school days.

So here goes:
Yarn: any type of acrylic, merino or wool mix with appropriated hook size:  my version merino baby worsted- 2,5 mm hook- size 6 years.
I suggest measuring against a hat you already have that fits the child or adult without being too snug.
The hat is crocheted free style based on the number if stitches used in the bottom band.
The number of stitched in the sequence is :10 +1
Stitches used:
Ch- chain
Sc- single crochet
dc- double crochet
bpdc- back post double crochet
fpdc – front post double crochet

Bottom band:
1.       Start by chaining 10
2.       Ch 1 turn( counts as 1), sc in the rest 9 stitches.
3.       Ch1 turn ( counts as 1) sc only  in the back chain of all the 9 stitches ( this will create the ribbed finish of the band)
4.       Repeat *3 for as many rows you need to make to create a band that fits around the head without being too snug ( aim for an even number of rows) – mine had 100 rows.

When you are done you can start on the hat:
1.       Ch 3 (counts as 1), dc in each stitch across the band.
2.       Ch 3 turn, fpdc in the next 4 stitches, bpdc in the next 6 stitches,* fpdc in the next 4 stitches, bpdc in the next 6 stitches*, repeat ** till the end of the row- finish with 1 dc ch.
3.       Ch 3 turn, fpdc in the next 6 stitches,  bpdc in the next 4 stitches, *fpdc in the next 6 stitches, bpdc in the next 4 stitches*, repeat ** till the end of the row.
4.       Ch 3 turn, fpdc in the next 4 stitches, bpdc in the next 6 stitches,* fpdc in the next 4 stitches, bpdc in the next 6 stitches*, repeat ** till the end of the row.
5.       First spiral: ch3,* fptrc in the 4th fpdc, then in the 5th fpdc , then in the 6th , then in the 3rd , then in the 2nd and lastly in the 1st ( this will create the spiral twist); 4 bpdc*, repeat ** till the end of the row.

Repeat sequence 2 to 5 until you get the desired height of the hat – mine has 5 “ spirals “ but it depends on each of the future hat owner. (remember my advice to measure against an already fitting hat).

You are pretty much done and you have a rectangle. You will have to join the sides by simply sewing them together using yarn and a tapestry needle . You will use the same tapestry needle to insert the yarn every other stitch on the top side of the obtained cylinder( the bottom part is the band) and pull. The hat will come to shape. All you need is to secure the closing so it won’t come lose and sew a matching pom-pom.
 The hat is done.

Mini infinity scarf or muffler
I find that this type of “scarf” is very comfortable for a child and also very easy to keep track of considering  that it can be tucked inside the hat so it won’t be misplaced in the classroom.

1.       Chain the number of stitches equal to the number of rows from the hat’s band ( in my case 100).
You will follow the same pattern as for the hat.

2.       Ch 3 (counts as 1), dc in each stitch across the band.
3.       Ch 3 turn, fpdc in the next 4 stitches, bpdc in the next 6 stitches,* fpdc in the next 4 stitches, bpdc in the next 6 stitches*, repeat ** till the end of the row- finish with 1 dc ch.
4.       Ch 3 turn, fpdc in the next 6 stitches,  bpdc in the next 4 stitches, *fpdc in the next 6 stitches, bpdc in the next 4 stitches*, repeat ** till the end of the row.
5.       Ch 3 turn, fpdc in the next 4 stitches, bpdc in the next 6 stitches,* fpdc in the next 4 stitches, bpdc in the next 6 stitches*, repeat ** till the end of the row.
6.       First spiral: ch3,* fptrc in the 4th fpdc, then in the 5th fpdc , then in the 6th , then in the 3rd , then in the 2nd and lastly in the 1st ( this will create the spiral twist); 4 bpdc*, repeat ** till the end of the row.
Repeat sequence 2 to 5 until you get the desired height of the scarf– mine has 4 “ spirals “ but it depends on each of the future hat owner. (remember my advice to measure against the neck height of the person wearing it ). Sew the side of the obtained rectangle together and  you are done.

This is about it . I hope you enjoy making these and also I hope you will have fun trying this pattern in different colors.
