Asos designs
are among of the most popular crocheted design for casual wear. They have a
certain something you cannot define, a loose and comfortable structure and also
that certain sex appeal only open work crocheted items have.
This being
said, I chose to write a free crochet pattern blog exactly on this topic. This
particular Asos tunic is one of the most viral crocheted items one finds when looking
for crochet summer tunic.
I saw it in a
multitude of colors , looser, tighter, fitted , longer or shorter, worn with
bathing suits, jeans, mini skirt and even made into a beach cover-up in a less
elaborate form.
So with no
further addition here goes:
Tips:
Recommended yarn:
cotton, medium, 3 mm hook.
The tunic is
worked in round from top down.
The base chain
is worked as long as you need to meet the requirements. For an off shoulder look
make it longer.
Pattern:
1. Chain the
initial chain – multiples of 4 +1
2. Ch3, sk2, *1dc,sk
2* …repeat ** till the end of the row sl st ( 2 or 3 rows)
3. Sl st in
the first ch2 space, ch3 ch2 21dc ch4, (in the next ch space) 1dc ch2 1dc ch4… repeat
** till the end of the row sl st
4. Repeat 3
twice.
5. ch3 ch2
1dc ch5, (in the next ch space) *1dc ch2 1dc ch5*… repeat ** till the end of
the row sl st
6. ch3 ch2
1dc ch3 1sc (in the 5 ch space below) ch3, *1dc ch2 1dc ch3 1sc (in the 5 ch
space below) ch3*… repeat ** till the end of the row sl st
7. Repeat 5
and 6
8. ch3 ch2
1dc ch6, (in the next ch space) *1dc ch2 1dc ch6*… repeat ** till the end of
the row sl st
9. ch3 ch2
1dc ch3 1sc (in the 6 ch space below) ch3, *1dc ch2 1dc ch3 1sc (in the 6 ch
space below) ch3*… repeat ** till the end of the row sl st
10. ch3 1dc
ch2 2dc ch6, (in the next ch space) *2dc ch2 2dc ch6*… repeat ** till the end
of the row sl st
11. ch3 1dc
ch2 2dc ch3 1sc (in the 6 ch space below) ch3, *2dc ch2 2dc ch3 1sc (in the 6
ch space below) ch3*… repeat ** till the end of the row sl st
*12. ch3 1dc
ch2 2dc ch7, (in the next ch space) *2dc ch2 2dc ch7*… repeat ** till the end
of the row sl st
*13. ch3 1dc
ch2 2dc ch3 1sc (in the 7 ch space below) ch3, *2dc ch2 2dc ch3 1sc (in the 7
ch space below) ch3*… repeat ** till the end of the row sl st
And this
concludes the round increase.
Work as many
repetitions of 12 and 13 as necessary to get the required length. Recommended length
is to 2 inches above the elbow.
Shape the
body and armholes.
So far you
have a cape. In order to continue down you must measure the circumference of
your chest or how loose you want the finished item to be.
Divide this
measurement in 4 quarter ( ex: 44 cm /4= 11cm) . Place
the crocheted “cape” on a flat surface. On one side find the middle group of
stitches. Measure from the middle one quarter(ex: 11cm) to each side. Use stitch markers.
Work *12 in
round linking from one side to the other where the stitch markers are leaving
the arm opening. Work down *13 and continue alternating *12 and *13 until the hip
line.
For the hip
line work row 2 for 8 times.
Hip border:
- In the last grid row starting from a ch2 space , c7
skipping 2 chain spaces and sc in the next. Repeat till the end of the
row.
- In each 7ch space work 4dc ch1 4dc and 2dctog on top
of the sc in the previous row
- Ch8 1sc ( in the 1ch space below)…repeat
- Ch4, 1dc ch2 1dc (in the 1sc below), ch4 1sc ( in the
middle of the next 3ch space)…repeat
- Ch2, 2dc ch2
2dc (in the 1sc below), ch2 1sc (
in the middle of the next 3ch space)…repeat
- Ch2, 3dc ch2 3dc (in the 1sc below), ch2 1sc ( in the
middle of the next 3ch space)…repeat
- Ch3, 3dc ch2 3dc (in the 1sc below), ch3 1sc ( in the
middle of the next 3ch space)…repeat
Here is one with the same principle but a lot simpler as beach coverrup.
….and
you’re done.
This
is it. You made yourself one stylish and functional tunic. This style of
crocheted tunic is surprisingly functional and also surprisingly fun to make.
The
loose structure doesn't need excessive counting care and you can be sure you
can make one in less than a week.
I
hope this post is to your liking and I really hope I will see some examples of
this pattern soon.
God
bless you, darlings and remember to join us on Facebook, Google + and Pinterest
for interesting updates and useful tips for crocheted items.
Xoxo
and a weekend after your own heart

Hello Eva,
RăspundețiȘtergereI would like to know how long I need to make the base chain for a collar like on the last picture.
Hey darling. Please measure yourself around the neck considering the actual opening. Since it is measured in round consider using as a model a regular T-shirt or blouse. Chain accordingly to that measurement. by simply chaining enough spokes so the base chain will line to the measurement. Slip stitch to join and work according to the pattern. Good luck.
RăspundețiȘtergereI am a bit confused by the 2nd row when i do it as you have written it seems to be decreasing my row is this what it is supposed to do or was there a typing error please any info more on this matter would be lovely

RăspundețiȘtergereHi, I love this and I want to practice my skills doing it, but I really hardly understand this: 3. Sl st in the first ch2 space, ch3 ch2 21dc ch4, (in the next ch space) 1dc ch2 1dc ch4… repeat ** till the end of the row sl st ... Can you please explain it more for me! How for example you can ch3 and immediately cha 2 more? Isn't it ch 5 ? and I guess the 21 is not correct? Thank you so much for the effort and the pattern!
RăspundețiȘtergereI’m confused about this too. can you please explain? thank you!
ȘtergereHi! I love this top but is row 2 wrong? I'm trying to figure it out: "Ch3, sk2, *1dc,sk 2* …repeat ** till the end of the row sl st ( 2 or 3 rows)" and by skipping 2 chains and then doing a double chain it's decreasing the foundation chain. I wonder if I'm reading it wrong?
RăspundețiȘtergereThanks for any help you can give!
Hi Eva, I recently saw that this Etsy seller has published row-by-row of these two tunics: https://www.etsy.com/listing/292754109/crochet-pattern-summer-cover-up-beach and https://www.etsy.com/listing/279245636/crochet-pattern-summer Prior to these two the seller had no own row-by-row instructions, only free charts from internet and vintage patterns: https://www.etsy.com/shop/carolrosa?ref=l2-shopheader-name§ion_id=13529929 You can watch her shop and if there is some hint that she is reselling two of your free patterns (or maybe more in the future) you should contact her. Maybe there will be reviiews from her customers about your two tunics? KR, R
RăspundețiȘtergereShe wrote the instructions herself following the crochet book she found the tunics in. Your comments are libellous!!
ȘtergereInternet search has confirmed that this Etsy shop belongs to you, Faith Boo https://www.etsy.com/shop/ButtercupBB
ȘtergereNo wonder that you support reselling of FREE patterns - your shop has no products of your own, you also resell patterns created by other people.
Faith Boo, please remove the Etsy listing. Reselling free Information violates the copyright infringement policy by Google. In case I find it again I will ( regretfully) have to report you to Etsy authority and ban you as a seller. If you want to sell patterns, write them on your own.
ȘtergereHi thanks for the pattern but when you say chain three then skip two then one double crochet then repeat to end the work curls up isn't there a chain two or three somewhere
RăspundețiȘtergereCotton yarn medium? Do you mean worsted weight?
RăspundețiȘtergereHi!Looking at the written pattern I think there are some mistakes, but If I'm not wrong just look at the first image (it's the same thing, but designed 😉); so 1 rnd is: ch3 (=1dc) 2 ch, 1dc and repeat. 2 rnd is: in 2ch-space below work ch3 (=1dc) 2 ch 1 dc 4 ch and repeat...
RăspundețiȘtergereHi, I crocheted this beautiful tunic! I had to use the 2nd hand drawn pattern to understand how to make it, if you use that, it works up great!
RăspundețiȘtergereCan you post instructions for the simpler beach cover up? It is the white beach cover up in the last picture on this page. Thank you so much. gerberryful@gmail.com
